Free crypto order book heatmap: 9 live markets

By Swiftedge · Published

Swiftedge Depth is a free, live crypto order book heatmap that runs in your browser: no sign-up, no download and no API key. It draws the perpetual futures order book as a heatmap, a fresh column four times a second, with every trade on top as a bubble. It covers Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and XRP, and perpetual futures on gold, US 500, US 100, silver and WTI crude oil: 9 markets in all.

What an order book heatmap shows

An order book lists the limit orders waiting to buy (bids) and to sell (asks) at each price. A snapshot only shows this second. A heatmap lays every snapshot side by side, so you see how the book changed and how long each order stayed.

Time runs from left to right and price runs up the side. Every horizontal band is one price level, shaded by the size resting there: bids in green below the price, asks in violet above it. Brighter means more size. The price is drawn as a line, candlesticks or a footprint chart, and each trade is a bubble: teal when a buyer lifted the ask, violet when a seller hit the bid. That is why traders also call it a liquidity heatmap: it shows where liquidity sits and what happens to it when the price arrives.

How to read it, step by step

  1. Find the bright bands near the price. These are large resting orders, or walls. A band that has stood for many minutes says more than one that just appeared.
  2. Watch the approach. When the price gets there, trades eat into the band, it holds, or it vanishes. A band that fades just before the price touches it was canceled, not filled.
  3. Read the bubbles against the bands. Large teal bubbles into a violet band while the price barely moves means sellers are absorbing the buying; heavy selling into a green band is the mirror image.
  4. Look at the empty space. Where little size rests, it takes less volume to move the price through.
  5. Add context. The indicator menu adds liquidations, CVD, VWAP and Positioning, which shows where leveraged positions would be liquidated.

Order book heatmap vs liquidation heatmap

An order book heatmap shows orders that are really resting in the book. A liquidation heatmap is a model: it estimates the prices where leveraged positions would be closed by force. One is observed, the other is calculated. Swiftedge has both: Depth for the live book and the Bitcoin liquidation heatmap (also for every other market) for the estimates. Common questions

Is there a free crypto order book heatmap?

Yes. Swiftedge Depth is free for everyone, in the browser, with no account, no download and no API key. Open swiftedge.uk/depth for Bitcoin, or pick any of the 9 markets on this page.

Which markets have a live order book heatmap?

Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, gold, US 500, US 100, silver and WTI crude oil. Each one has its own live chart in Depth and its own heatmap page.

Is a crypto liquidity heatmap the same thing?

Usually, yes. A liquidity heatmap and an order book heatmap both chart resting limit orders over time. A liquidation heatmap is different: an estimate of where leveraged positions would be closed by force.

Where does the data come from?

Everything Swiftedge shows is its own calculation on public perpetual futures data from Hyperliquid and Lighter; the FAQ lists the sources. It is not the whole market.
