Fri close = Bitcoin at the CME close (Fri 5:00 PM ET); Sun reopen = Bitcoin when CME reopened (Sun 6:00 PM ET); weekend range = high to low in between. Fill times are the start of the 1-hour bar in which Bitcoin first traded back to the Friday close, so they are accurate to the hour. The weekend is named by its Friday.
How often CME gaps fill
Measured on every weekend since 6 Jan 2023 (199 weekends). A gap counts as filled when Bitcoin trades back to its price at the Friday CME close. Median gap: 0.88 %; 122 gaps up, 77 down.

"In 24 h" and "in a week" only count gaps that are at least that old. Past fill rates describe what happened; they do not promise that the next gap will fill.
How Swiftedge measures the gap
Friday close: Bitcoin's price at the CME close, Friday 5:00 PM ET (the close of the 1-hour bar that ends then).
Sunday reopen: Bitcoin's price when CME reopens, Sunday 6:00 PM ET (the open of the 1-hour bar that starts then).
Filled: a bar from the reopen on trades through the Friday close (low at or below it, high at or above it).
These are Bitcoin prices at CME's hours, not CME futures prices. Futures trade at a premium or discount to Bitcoin, so the gap on a futures chart can differ a little in size. Daylight saving time is applied, so the hours stay at 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM ET all year; holidays are not treated separately.
CME Bitcoin futures have traditionally stopped trading on Friday at 5:00 PM ET and reopened on Sunday at 6:00 PM ET, while Bitcoin trades all weekend. The gap is the weekend's move between those two times. Swiftedge measures it on Bitcoin's own price at the CME close and the CME reopen.
Do CME gaps always fill?
No. Most do: since 6 Jan 2023, 191 of 199 weekend gaps traded back to Bitcoin's price at the Friday CME close, 56 % within 24 hours and 84 % within a week. 8 gaps are still open. Past fill rates are not a forecast.
Does CME Bitcoin trade on weekends now?
CME Group has added weekend trading for its crypto futures in 2026. This page keeps tracking the classic weekend window, from the Friday 5:00 PM ET close to the Sunday 6:00 PM ET reopen, which many traders still mark as the gap.
What time does the CME gap form in Eastern Time?
The Friday reference is Bitcoin's price at 5:00 PM ET, when CME closes, and the gap is set at the Sunday 6:00 PM ET reopen. Both times follow US daylight saving time.
