How it is calculated
- Hourly closing prices of the XAG perpetual future, around the clock.
- Log returns over the last 168, 720 and 2,160 hours (7, 30 and 90 days), zero mean, annualized with 8,760 hours.
- The typical daily move is the price times the annual figure divided by the square root of 365.
- The range and the percentile cover the history in the long chart only.
Sites that use daily closes, or another market, measure the same moves another way. Compare the figure with itself over time rather than with other sources.

FAQ
What is realized volatility?
How much the price actually moved, expressed as a yearly percentage. A 30-day realized volatility of 40 % means that, at the pace of the last 30 days, a one-standard-deviation move over a year would be about 40 %.
Why can Silver's volatility differ from other sites?
This page uses every hour of a perpetual future that trades around the clock, with a zero-mean formula. Sites that use daily closes, or another market, measure the same moves another way.
Is there an implied volatility here?
No. This page shows realized volatility only: how much the price has moved, measured from our own price data.
Is high volatility a signal?
It describes how much the price has been moving, not where it goes next.
How often is it updated?
Every 10 minutes. The 90-day chart has one point per hour, the long chart one point a day at 8:00 PM ET (00:00 UTC).
