"Top 100 accounts by position size": the long share of the combined value in USD of the 100 largest positions. Ratio = long / short.

Who was aggressive, last 24 hours

The long/short ratio shows who holds positions. Taker volume shows who was in a hurry: in the trades Swiftedge records, 12,830 US500 was bought with market orders and 13,236 US500 sold, a buy/sell ratio of 0.97. The same split per price level and per minute is the footprint chart and CVD in Swiftedge Depth.

How to read it

The account line counts people, not money. In the whole market every long has a short on the other side, so when most accounts are long, the short side is usually held by fewer, larger accounts. The top 100 line weighs positions by size, so it shows which way the largest positions lean. Both cover only the accounts Swiftedge tracks. Watch the direction more than the level, and read it next to open interest, funding and liquidations.

FAQ

What is the US 500 long/short ratio?

The number of trader accounts holding a net long position in US500 perpetual futures divided by the number holding a net short position. Swiftedge counts it from the real open positions of the accounts it tracks, which are public on the exchanges it follows. A ratio of 1.5 means 60 % of the counted accounts are long and 40 % are short.

If 60 % of accounts are long, are there more longs than shorts?

No. Every futures contract has a buyer and a seller, so in the whole market the total long position always equals the total short position. The ratio counts accounts, not coins: when most accounts are long, the short side is held by fewer accounts with larger positions on average.

What are the top 100 accounts?

The 100 accounts with the largest open positions among those Swiftedge tracks, ranked by position value in USD. Their line shows how much of that combined value is long, so a large account weighs more than a small one.

Does a high long/short ratio mean the price will fall?

Not on its own. A crowded side is often discussed as fuel for liquidations if price moves against it, but the ratio describes positioning right now; it is not a forecast. Compare it with funding, open interest and liquidations before drawing conclusions.

Which accounts are included and how often does it update?

Accounts with open US500 perpetual futures positions on on-chain exchanges. It is part of the market, not every account. Swiftedge counts the positions every 5 minutes and the page rebuilds every 5 minutes; the history starts when recording started and covers up to 30 days.
