Real yield and gold
The 10-year real yield is what US inflation-protected Treasuries (TIPS) pay above inflation. Gold pays no interest, so it is often compared with real yields. Correlation of daily changes over the period shown: −0.26 (81 days).
Dollar and gold
The broad dollar index is the Federal Reserve's trade-weighted value of the dollar against a wide basket of currencies. Gold is priced in dollars. Correlation of daily changes over the period shown: −0.38 (80 days).
Correlation is between -1 and +1 and describes the period shown only; it is not a forecast.

FAQ
Why do real yields matter for gold?
Gold pays no interest. When inflation-protected bonds pay more above inflation, holding gold costs more in missed income, and the reverse when real yields fall. Over many years gold and real yields have often moved in opposite directions, but not always; the correlation on this page shows how it looked over the period shown.
What is the broad dollar index?
The Federal Reserve's nominal broad dollar index (FRED series DTWEXBGS): the dollar's value against the currencies of the main US trading partners, weighted by trade. It covers more currencies than the better-known euro-heavy indices.
What is the COT report?
The CFTC's weekly Commitments of Traders report shows how different groups are positioned in US futures. For gold it covers COMEX gold futures; this page shows managed money, the group that includes hedge funds.
Why are some numbers a few days old?
FRED publishes daily series with a delay of one or more business days and has no values on US holidays; the COT report shows Tuesday's positions and comes out on Friday. Every number shows its date, and older-than-usual numbers are marked.
How often is it updated?
The numbers are fetched every hour and the page is rebuilt every 10 minutes.
