How to read the gold COT report
Every futures contract has a buyer and a seller, so the market as a whole is always flat. The report shows who holds which side. Managed money is the group most often read as speculative positioning: a large net long means many funds already own gold futures, a fall in the net position means they are selling or adding shorts. The positions are from Tuesday and come out on Friday, so the report is a few days old when it appears.
COMEX gold futures are 100 troy ounces per contract. The gold price in the table is the Binance XAUUSDT close on the report date (UTC), for orientation.

FAQ
What is the gold COT report?
The CFTC's weekly Commitments of Traders report shows the positions of different trader groups in US futures markets. For gold it covers COMEX gold futures. This page uses the disaggregated version, which splits traders into producers and merchants, swap dealers, managed money, other reportables and small traders.
Who is managed money?
Hedge funds, commodity trading advisers and other money managers registered with the CFTC. Their net position is the number most often quoted as speculators' positioning in gold.
When is the COT report published?
Usually on Friday at 15:30 New York time, with the positions as of the Tuesday before. US holidays can move it by a day or two.
Is a large net long bullish or bearish?
Neither by itself. It describes positioning. Some traders read very large net longs as crowded, others as a sign of strong demand. This page does not forecast.
How often is this page updated?
We check the CFTC every hour; the numbers change once a week when a new report comes out.
